I like the idea of being able to create something completely from scratch, which is a big part of Élan. I also wanted the opportunity to be more involved in the Douglas Anderson community, whether through the magazine itself or through event planning for things like Writers’ Fest. While the reasons are still primarily the same, the magazine itself has definitely become a bigger part of my motivation to work on the staff. The editing and publishing skills I learned on the staff have definitely given me more confidence in my ability to create. My love of language has increased over the course of my time on the staff, and I feel more confident in my ability to not only come up with, but actually implement, ideas.
