My favorite genre of literature is realistic fiction. I’ve always been drawn to personal experiences. Realistic fiction, for me, put living, breathing characters into situations I could also place myself into because they were so tangible. When I feel I have a place in a story or text, I connect to it. It makes learning it’s message more profound.
The art piece “Van Gogh’s Tribute” in the Élan Fall 2016 edition has had the most impact on me so far. At first glance, the picture is striking because of the use of colors, such as the background in lilac contrasted with the face colored bright yellow and red. Then, you take into account the objects which make up the background and the face, the flowers. It’s a stunning image that’s stuck with me.
