History

We’re Celebrating our 30th Anniversary!

Élan is a student literary publication whose first issue was self-produced and published in 1986 by Douglas Anderson School of the Arts to showcase the creative writing skills of its students. It wasn’t until 1990, under the guidance of then department chair Jacquelin Jones, that Douglas Anderson added a Creative Writing department to the school. That year, the Élan publication became the school’s official student literary magazine.

Take a look at Elan’s visual evolution and see how far we’ve come by clicking on the images in the gallery below. If you’re interested in purchasing Élan magazines from our archives, going back as far as 1986, please contact us through our online contact form or email us a elanlitmagazine@gmail.com.
